Busy New Nerd

As a new nerd - about a week or so - I wanted to share my first day of "work" and express the thrill today was for me!

I started at 7am with a breakfast meeting with a referral group in Downtown Vancouver - at which, I introduced myself and my desire to focus on residential customers.  I mentioned the special I will be offering (once my flyer has been printed) for a PC Tune Up, and immediately got a request from one of the members for a card.  After the meeting broke up, another member asked for my card as his home based business located very near to me.

From there, I managed to catch up to a fellow nerd to "observe" his service appointment at 9am.  I was put to work, flexing my nerd muscle (read: brain).  It was exhilarating!  We fixed a glitch with Outlook 2000 and XP where the email passwords aren't saved, and set him up with an "on the road" account so that he could send mail using his dial-up account when he wasn't plugged into ADSL at home.  We tidied his computer a bit and removed a large number of startup files... and then managed to sell him (very easily) on the residential service contract.

I rushed on to meet up with yet another fellow nerd at another client (11am in Surrey) - where I was to be the Primary Nerd (much to my surprise and pleasure)! Here we encountered a dead CD drive.  We installed a new CDRW that the client purchased at our suggestion from Future Shop (big sale!).  While they were shopping - I cleaned up the startup files and checked the system for spyware.  I noticed the antivirus software had seriously expired, so we installed Norton 2003, and suggested downloading Zone Alarm.

From there I moved on to Richmond where a Doctor's office needed a sound card reinstalled into the box - 15 minutes later she was thrilled!!

It was so exciting for me to realize that I could actually service 3 clients in one day and average $200 per call - even at my newbie status!  I can't wait to break 100 ;)

I Love this Nerd stuff!!
